One a royal highness, the other a penniless waif brought up by a group of paupers. Each person longs for a different life. The royal, a rebel, craves excitement and adventure. The other—who looks like the royal but has none of her advantages—loves dancing, reading and pretending. After a variety of mishaps, Penny, ends up alone in the forest at the same time as the royal. The two meet, exchange clothes, and take each other's places in life. Ages 8-11
